Overview
Go deeper into Nyerere (Selous) National Park with a balanced mix of Rufiji River boat safaris, walking safaris, and extended game drives across remote lakes and woodlands. Expect elephants, lions, hippos, crocs, abundant birdlife—and seasonal chances for African wild dogs.
Travel: Dar es Salaam → Nyerere by road ~5–6 hrs (traffic/road). Fly-in option ~45 min to Mtemere/Siwandu airstrip.
Itinerary
Day 1: Dar es Salaam → Nyerere (Sunset Boat Safari)
Morning road transfer or fly-in to Nyerere; lodge check-in and lunch.
Late afternoon Rufiji River boat safari for hippos, crocs, bee-eaters, kingfishers, and fish eagles.
Dinner and overnight at a river/lakeside lodge or tented camp.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive — Lakes & Woodlands
Early departure for a full-day game drive with picnic lunch.
Explore lakes and open plains for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and big cats.
Return at sunset; dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Guided Walking Safari + Afternoon Drive
Walking safari with an armed ranger: tracks, plants, smaller fauna, and birding.
Midday rest; lunch at the lodge.
Afternoon game drive focusing on predator hotspots and watering points.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Remote Zones / Optional Activities
Morning game drive to quieter, remote areas (time/season permitting).
Optional activities (extra cost): short sunset boat, catch-and-release fishing, or village visit.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Sunrise Drive → Return to Dar / Zanzibar
Final sunrise game drive for predators and birdlife.
Late breakfast; check out.
