Uncrowded and immersive—this Nyerere (Selous) safari blends a sunset Rufiji River boat safari, a guided walking safari with an armed ranger, and classic game drives across lakes and open woodlands.
Travel: Dar es Salaam → Nyerere by road ~5–6 hrs (traffic/road). Fly-in option ~45 min to Mtemere/Siwandu airstrip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam → Nyerere (Sunset Rufiji Boat Safari)

  • Morning pick-up in Dar; road transfer (or fly-in) to Nyerere NP; lodge check-in and lunch.

  • Late afternoon Rufiji River boat safari for hippos, crocs, bee-eaters, and fish eagles—golden-hour photos.

  • Dinner and overnight at a river/lakeside lodge or tented camp.

  • Early walking safari with an armed ranger: tracks, plants, birds, and chance close-ups from a safe distance.

  • Midday rest at the lodge; lunch.

  • Afternoon game drive focusing on lakes and open plains for elephants, giraffes, zebras, and predators.

  • Dinner and overnight.

  • Sunrise departure for a full day exploring varied habitats; look for lions, wild dogs (rare/seasonal), and rich birdlife.

  • Picnic lunch at a designated spot; continue game viewing through the afternoon.

  • Optional short sunset boat (time/season permitting). Dinner and overnight.

  • Short sunrise game drive for final sightings.

  • Late breakfast; check out.

  • Road transfer or short flight back to Dar es Salaam (or onward to Zanzibar). Drop-off at hotel/airport.
