3-Day Nyerere Classic: Rufiji River & Game Drives

Overview

A compact Nyerere (Selous) safari combining a sunset Rufiji River boat safari with classic game drives in vast, uncrowded landscapes. Expect elephants, lions, hippos, crocs, and superb birdlife.
Travel: Dar es Salaam → Nyerere by road ~5–6 hrs (traffic/road). Fly-in option ~45 min to Mtemere/Siwandu airstrip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam → Nyerere (Sunset Rufiji Boat Safari)

  • Morning pick-up in Dar; drive (or fly-in) to Nyerere NP; lodge check-in and lunch.

  • Late afternoon Rufiji River boat safari for hippos, crocs, bee-eaters, and fish eagles; golden-hour photos.

  • Dinner and overnight at a river/lakeside lodge or tented camp.

  • Early game drive into open woodlands and lakes; look for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and big cats.

  • Picnic lunch at a designated spot; continue exploring prime areas in the afternoon.

  • Return to the lodge for sunset, dinner, and overnight.

  • Sunrise game drive for peak predator and bird activity.

  • Late breakfast; check out.

  • Drive (or short flight) back to Dar es Salaam; drop-off at hotel/airport.
